Robert Carlzon, 97, of New Paltz, NY, formerly, Kingston, NY passed away on Sunday, November 3, 2024 at Woodland Pond in New Paltz, NY. He was born on August 12, 1927 in Brooklyn, NY and was the son of the late John Emile and Annie Kahlin Carlzon.
Robert graduated from Kingston High School in 1945 and attended Colgate University and graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Arts. He was an agent for State Farm for over 38 years. Robert also held a professional CLU Life Insurance Degree.
He was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church, where he serviced 13 years as Sunday School Superintendent and served on the Church Council. He was a member of Kiwanis for many years as well as Assistant Scout Master of Troop 9. He also was a board member for Wiltwyck Cemetery. Robert was a member of Friends of Historic Kingston, Senate House Museum and D & H Canal Museum. He served as a board member of the Hudson River Maritime Museum for many years and was a member of the Kingston Stamptrotters Society.
He is survived by his daughter, Susan (Maynard) Shumway and his son, Richard (Amy Jean) Carlzon. His grandchildren, Matthew (Caroline) Shumway, Morgan Ann Shumway, and Jacqueline Carcaramo and a great grandson, John "Jack" Shumway. As well as many nieces and nephews and relatives in Sweden. Robert is preceded in death by his wife, Dolores Legg Carlzon and sister, Hellene Wells.
