Robert A. West

Robert ''Bob'' A. West, 83, of Second St., Connelly, NY, died Thursday, October 15, 2009 at Thompson House, Rhinebeck, NY. He was born April 7, 1926 in Englewood, NJ to the late Alexander and Helen (Lehmann) West. He was the husband of Doris (Barnum) West; they wed on May 22, 1948.




He had been a carpenter, having worked for the Benedictine Hospital until his retirement. Prior to that he had been self employed, owning and operating Larry's Overhead Doors.




Mr. West was a veteran of the US Army, WW II having served in the European Theater of Operations, he was a active member of the Reformed Church of the Comforter, a member of the Town of Esopus American Legion Post #1298, he had been a member and officer of the Connelly Fire Department, had served on the board of education of the Connelly School district prior to the consolidation of the Kingston Schools. At one time he had been a reenactor with the local Civil War reenactors group.





A skilled carpenter and woodworker, he enjoyed many hours of woodworking, creating tables, lamps, and other items for his family





In addition to his wife he is survived by his children, Kathryn H. Kirby, Kingston, NY, Elizabeth A. Cashara and her husband Alex, Lomontville, NY, Paul A. West, Connelly, NY, and Barbara A. West - Varnum and her husband Shane, Avon, NY, his grandchildren Beth Cashara, James, Nathan and Jenna West, Christian, Cameron, Kathryn and Kyleigh Varnum.




Entrusted to the care of the Keyser Funeral Service, Inc., 216 Broadway, Port Ewen, Friends may call on Sunday from 1 - 4 pm. The service will be held on Monday at 1:00 pm. Rev. Dr. David M. Brechter, officiating.




Burial in Reformed Church of The Comforter Cemetery, with military honors provided by Joyce Schirick Post # 1386 VFW.
