Robert A. Slater, Jr., 71, of Kingston, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Tuesday, March 18, 2014 at Kingston Hospital. He was in Buffalo to the late Robert A. Slater and Edith Slater Clark.
He was a Kingston High School graduate, class of 1960. He then joined the Army Reserves where he attained the rank of Staff Sergeant.
Robert worked for many years with Fred J. Johnston in his antiques business. In the early 1990's Robert became the owner of Fred J. Johnston Antiques, a business that he continued to run successfully for many years to follow. He later founded and operated Cedar Hill Antiques for several years.
He was a member of Old Dutch Church in Kingston for many years where he ran the Preservation Fund and was involved with maintaining the Tulips. He was past President of Friends of Historic Kingston.
Robert is survived by his loving companion, Rhoda Owings of Kingston, his children, Andrew J. Slater and his wife Milly of Saugerties, Sharyn E. Slater of Chandler, AZ, sisters, Joan E. Alward and her husband Robert of Raleigh, NC, Patricia Perry and her husband Don of Kingston, grandchildren, Molly, Ava, and Bridget Slater, two step children, four step grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Entrusted to the care of Luke Keyser of A. Carr & Son Funeral Home, 65 Lucas Ave, Kingston, where friends may visit on Friday March 21st from 4 - 7pm.
The funeral service will take place at 10am on Saturday March 22nd at Old Dutch Church, 272 Wall St., Kingston. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to, Friends of Historic Kingston, PO Box 3763, Kingston, NY 12402.
