Rita Margaret Senor, of Kiersted Ave., Kingston died Monday, February 23, 2009 at Golden Hill Health Care Center. She was 94.
She was born in Port Ewen on March 2, 1914, a daughter of the late Salvatore and Rita Tourisi Strano.
A lifelong area resident, for many years Rita worked at Metropolitan Life Insurance, Kingston. She retired in 1978.
A parishioner of St. Peter's Church, Kingston, Rita served as president on the Parish Council for many years and belonged to the St. Peter's Christian Mothers. A member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Court Santa Maria #164, she also belonged to the Columbiettes, Kingston Council #275.
Rita was a charter member of the former St. Joseph's Senior Citizens, a member of the Mid-Hudson Rose Society, and Ulster County Republican Women's Club. She was an active member and former vice president of the Kingston Coach House Players.
In 1976 she received an honor from the Mid-Hudson Heart Assoc. and in 1978 received the Community Service Award from Metropolitan Life Insurance for work in the community and St. Peter's Church. She also received the Kingston Kiwanis Club's "Community Service" Award.
For three terms Rita served on the Board at Ulster Performing Arts Center, received their "Volunteer of the Year" and often ushered. In 1990 she was named "Senior Citizen of the Year" by the Ulster County Office for the Aging. She also volunteered at Golden Hill Health Care Center.
Rita loved her cats and tending to her flowers.
Her husband Charles E. Senor, Jr. died September 3, 1962. Three sisters Mary Seitz, Angela Sotile, Elizabeth Bynes and two brothers Arthur and Joseph Strano all died previously.
Surviving are her daughter Rita Mary Senor of Kingston; many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews.
Reposing at the Simpson - Gaus Funeral Home, 411 Albany Ave. on Thursday from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. The funeral procession will form on Friday at 9:15 a.m. from the funeral home. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Peter's Church, Kingston at 10:00 a.m. Interment will be in St. Peter's Cemetery.
