Rita B. Wood, 83, of Chesterwood Court, Ballston Spa, formerly of Hurley, died Monday, November 2, at her residence. She was born June 2, 1926 in Hurley, the daughter of the late J. Leonard and Jennie (Thielpape) Lockwood.
She was the wife of the late William T. Wood who died on March 6, 1988.
Mrs. Wood was a graduate of Kingston High School, class of 1944 and Central College, Pella, Iowa, receiving her Bachelors of Science, majoring in Biology and Music.
She had been the church organist at Hurley Reformed Church and also at the Reformed Church of the Comforter. For many years she served as the Deputy Town Clerk in the Town of Hurley. She had been a member of the Musical Society of Kingston. Mrs. Wood is survived by her daughters Rebecca J. and her husband Dr. Stephen Strader, Ballston Spa, Laurie and her husband Robert Cooper, Scotia, Pamela E. and her husband Andrew Baker, Clifton Park. Her grandchildren Emily and her husband Mathew Schmidt, Rachel Strader, Jeffrey Strader, Thomas Cooper, Matthew Cooper, Molly Baker and Kaitlin Baker, her great grandchildren Marshall Schmidt and Cadee Schmidt. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Douglas Lockwood.
Entrusted to the care of the Keyser Funeral Service, Inc., 326 Albany Avenue, Kingston, Friends may call on Friday from 10 - 12. The services will be held on Friday at 12 noon at Keyser Funeral Service, Rev. Dr. David M. Brechter, officiating. Burial in Hurley Cemetery.
