Richard Wood, 64, of Kingston, died Tuesday, December 22, 2020 at HealthAlliance Hospital Broadway Campus.
Born in Kingston, he was a son of the late Donald & Janice Hyde Wood.
He was a graduate of Kingston High School 1974 and then went on to study at Dutchess County Community College. He started working at IBM in 1977 and went on to work there until he retired in 2013. From there he became an employee for Jabil until June 2016 when he retired. He enjoyed being on the river so he decided to work part time for the Rip Van Winkle for 2 summers. He liked playing golf, hiking, and spending time with his family. Richard loved Christmas trees, he had numerous trees placed throughout his house. He really enjoyed cooking and would often make up his own recipes. He loved playing practical jokes on everyone and photo shopping everyone’s pictures to make them funny.
Richard is survived by his wife of 41 years, Debra Sutton Wood of Kingston, whom he married on June 9, 1979, a son, Adam Wood and his wife Tara of Poughkeepsie, a daughter, Elizabeth Barese and her husband, David of Port Ewen, two brothers, Jeffrey Wood of Kingston, James Wood and his wife Kathy of Kingston, a sister, Deborah Collins of Longmont, CO, four grandchildren, Avari, Audrina, Everli and Lorenzo. Richard is also survived by his dog Martini and his cat, Corona.
The family will receive friends at the Simpson-Hammerl Funeral Home, Saturday, January 9, 2021 from 1-3 PM.
A memorial service will follow at 3:00 PM at the funeral home.
Interment will be held privately.
In lieu of flowers the family is asking for donations for the study to cure arthritis due to his granddaughter’s diagnosis of juvenile idiopathic arthritis. Donations can be made at www.Arthritis.org
