Richard M. Sweeney, Sr. ("Dick"), 72, of Kingston, died at the North Adams Commons Nursing
Home and Rehabilitation Center, on May 13, 2011.
Dick was married for 29 years to the Phyllis C. Sweeney. Above all others, he valued his
relationship with Phyllis and remained devoted to her even after her passing 17 years ago. He
showed his love and devotion by supporting in all her in all her pursuits and by loving care
through her battle with cancer.
Dick was the son of Rose Marie Feeney. He grew up in Kingston on West Chestnut Street at
the "The Hill," with his mother, his aunts Margaret and Marion Feeney, and his grandparents
Thomas and Rose W. Feeney.
Dick graduated from Kingston High School and Cranwell Preparatory School. He later attended Boston College and LeMoyne College. He was a parishoner of St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church in Kingston. He served his country in the US Army National Guard. He worked for over 35 years with his life-long friend, Barney Millens and retired as Vice President and Treasurer from Chas. Effron & Sons Scrap Iron and Metal, in Poughkeepsie, NY.
Dick will be remembered as a loving father, uncle and mentor to many. He was an avid gourmet cook, wine lover, photographer, painter, and patron of the Metropolitan Opera of New York. Dick enjoyed golfing with Phyllis, family and friends on vacations and at Wiltwyck Country Club. He also was a long-time supporter of Kingston High School Football.

Dick is survived by his sons, R. Michael Sweeney, Jr. (Amy), 45, of Chevy Chase, MD, and
Mark T. Sweeney (Kelly), 41, of Delmar, NY, and four grandchildren Matthew J. Sweeney, 11,
Erin C. Sweeney, 9, R. Michael Sweeney, III, 7, and Brendan T. Sweeney, 2. He also leaves
behind loving friends Barney and Joan Millens and brother-in-law Felix Ambrose and his wife
Louise. He had many beloved nieces and nephews. The family thanks the staff at the North
Adams Commons Nursing Home and the Hospice for their loving and attentive care.
Entrusted to the care of the A. Carr & Son Funeral Home, 65 Lucas Avenue, Kingston, NY 12401, where the procession will form on Thursday, May 19, 2011, at 9:15 AM and proceed to St. Joseph's Church where at 10:00 AM a mass of Christian burial will be celebrated.
Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Kingston.
Friends may call on Wednesday, May 18, 2011 from 5-8 PM at the funeral home.
