Richard Joyce

Richard J. Joyce, 75, of Kingston, NY, passed away on Monday December 4, 2023, after several years of declining health. He was born on April 18, 1948 in Tarrytown, NY, son of the late Richard and Mary (Lombardi) Joyce. Richard was married to Rita (Kunkel) Joyce on May 15, 1982. He served in the US Coast Guard in the Pacific during the Vietnam era.

He worked for 30 years at the U.S. Treasury Department in Kingston, retiring in 2016 and previously for the Department of Health and Human Services - Head Start out of the New York City office. Richard was a member of the Saint Catherine Choir, SCORE (Service Core of Retired Executives), Mensa and the National Treasury Employees Union. He was an avid storyteller who enjoyed reading, crosswords, following sports, trains, trivia, jokes, and being with friends and family, including his granddog “Dip”.

He is survived by his wife, Rita Kunkel Joyce of Kingston, his children, John Christopher Joyce of Guilderland, and Elizabeth Mary Joyce Zabatta and her husband Matthew Zabatta of Somerville, MA, his sister, Kathryn Joyce of FL, as well as in-laws Mary Therese Murray, Jerome Kunkel, Virginia Kunkel, Maureen Fogarty (and Joseph), Rosemary Pollard (and Russ Stevenor), Christine Conolly (and Michael), and many nieces and nephews.

Arrangements entrusted to Keyser Funeral & Cremation Service, 326 Albany Avenue, Kingston, NY 12401, where family and friends may visit on Saturday December 9, 2023 from 10am to 12pm. At 1pm a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Catherine Labouré RC Church, 200 Tuyten Bridge Rd., Lake Katrine, NY 12449. Inurnment will take place in the Gerald BH Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery at 11am on Monday December 11, 2023.
