Richard J. Varnum, 63, of Kingston, died Monday, March 12, 2012 at Kingston Hospital, surrounded by his loving family, after a longtime and courageous battle with muscular dystrophy. He was born July 20, 1948 in Corinth, NY the son of the late Floyd and Adele Varnum.
He was the husband of the late Gloria J. Mosher Varnum, she died on November 22, 2006.
He was a veteran of the US Army having served during the Vietnam War. He had been the manager of the home improvement department at Sears in Poughkeepsie for many years, he also operated his own business, RJV Computers & Repair in Kingston. He loved golf, fishing, bowling, woodworking and singing in the choir.
He is survived by his children, Lory Reynolds, Shelly Varnum, Shane Varnum and his wife Barbara, Nathaniel Varnum and his wife Christine and Karen Winslow, 14 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren. His siblings Mary Clothier, David Varnum, Nancy Varnum.
A Memorial service will be held at the Reformed Church of The Comforter on Wednesday at 11:00 am.
