Richard Dempsey

Richard J. Dempsey, 86, of Kingston, NY, passed away on Sunday, July 23, 2023 at home. He was born on January 26, 1937 in Kingston, son of the late John and Gertrude (Wilson) Dempsey. He was a graduate of St. Peter's School in Kingston and Kingston High School, class of 1954. He served as a police officer for the Kingston Police Department for 5 years before becoming a New York State Trooper where he worked for 20 years, retiring in 1987 as Zone Sargent at Troop F in Hurley, NY. Richard was a loyal New York Mets Fan and never got over the Dodgers leaving Brooklyn.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Jane Dempsey of Kingston, his children, Jaqueline Maroney and her husband Michael of Port Ewen, NY, Ann Dempsey of Boston, MA, and Patricia Dempsey and her husband Thomas Poznanski of Guilderland, NY, as well as his grandsons, Cliff Maroney of Stone Ridge, and Ian-Michael Maroney of Denver, CO. In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his sister, Jacqueline Dempsey and an infant son.
