Loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother, Richard "Dick" Curtis Becker, 90, of Kingston, NY, passed away at home on Tuesday, July 25, 2023. The son of the late Joel and Helen (Petry) Becker, and brother to Jean DeGroff, was born on April 24, 1933, in Hudson, NY. He was raised in Chatham, NY, and graduated from Chatham High School, where he met his wife of 53 years, Ruth Marjorie Thomas. He received an Associate's Degree in Engineering from Hudson Valley Community College. He served his country in the US Army during the Korean War.
Richard was an Electrical Engineer for IBM in Poughkeepsie, NY, for over 30 years. Before college, he fondly remembers working for the Chatham Lumber Yard. Richard was an active member of the VFW, the Wiccopee and Roscoe Rod and Gun Clubs, a Boy Scout Leader of Troop 123, and a Little League baseball coach for the town of Poughkeepsie.
Richard's faith was a feature of his life, first attending First Lutheran Church in Poughkeepsie, where he served as President of the Church Council and Superintendent of the Sunday School. Later he was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Poughkeepsie and most recently attended St. Paul's Lutheran Church of Wurtemburg regularly for fellowship with his daughter and caretaker, Roxanne Becker.
In retirement, Richard remained active and was a golfer and an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing and hunting. He was a tireless volunteer for the Office of the Aging, Neighbor to Neighbor, Meals on Wheels, and Angel Food East in Kingston.
His children survive Richard, Randy Becker, and his wife Stephanie of Wake Forest, NC. Roxanne Becker of Kingston, NY. Robert Becker and his wife SAS of Berwyn, PA, grandchildren, Kristin Racine and her husband Chris, Jonathan Becker and his wife Amy, Bryon Becker and his wife Hope, Kyle Owens and partner Sherard Lopez, Colin Owens, Rain Becker, Fox Becker, his great-granddaughters, Rose Racine and Isabella Becker, and many loving nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at St Paul's Lutheran Church of Wurtemburg, 371 Wurtemburg Road, Rhinebeck, NY 12572, on Saturday, August 5, 2023, at 10 am.
