Raymond C. Scheffel, Sr., 88 of Lake Katrine died on November 18, 2015 at Northern Dutchess Hospital, Rhinebeck, NY. Raymond was born in Ruby on August 16th, 1927, the son of the late David Scheffel Sr. and Evelyn Horton Scheffel.
Raymond was a WWII veteran serving in the Army Air Force, Pacific Theater of Operations. He had worked for Hercules Powder Company as a Lead Carpenter . Mr. Scheffel was the longest living member of the Plattekill Reformed Church and was a member of the Ruby Fire Department for 66 years, he had served as Chief, Fire commisioner and director. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and sitting in 'his' chair with Buddy.
Mr. Scheffel is survived by his loving wife of 63 years; Beverly (Osterhoudt) Scheffel, daughter; Denise Scheffel, son; Raymond (Chuck) Scheffel, Jr. and his wife Terry. His K-9 companion 'Buddy', his brothers; John (Jack) Scheffel and his wife Barbara, David Scheffel and his sister Helen Schabot. A step grandson, Rick Roberti and several nieces, nephews, cousins and many loving friends also survive. Raymond was predeceased by his brother William Scheffel and sisters, Marion Knapp and Ruth Dachenhausen.
Entrusted to the care of the Keyser Funeral & Cremation Service, 326 Albany Avenue, Kingston, the family will receive their friends on Friday from 4 - 8 pm. The procession will form on Saturday at 10 am; at 10:30 am Last Call will be at the Ruby Fire Department, at 11:00 a.m. the service will be held at the Plattekill Reformed Church. Burial in Mt. Marion Cemetery.
