Philomena Cassino, formerly of Rondout Garden Apartments, Kingston, died Saturday, November 15, 2003 at TenBroeck Commons Nursing Home. She was 98.
She was born in Corona, Queens on September 28, 1905, a daughter of the late Frank and Antoinette Cifone Petrocelli. In 1930 Mrs. Cassino began working as a machine operator for Doll Manufacturing, New York City. She retired in 1972.
In 1972 she moved to Kingston and for three years was the circulation manager for the former Ulster County Gazette. Mrs. Cassino was a past president of the Rondout Garden Senior Citizens Club and past president of the Golden Age Club, Kingston. A member of AARP, for many years Mrs. Cassino was active in the Foster Grandparent Program, Kingston.
Her husband Michael Cassino died in 1952. Four brothers Dominick, Ernest, Blasé and Victor Petrocelli all died previously.
Loving mother of Rita Greklek and her husband John, Roberta “Bobbie” Natoli and her husband John; sister of Marie Aubrey and the late Dominick, Ernest, Blasé and Victor Petrocelli; grandmother of Robin Carney, Christine Larsson, Jason Natoli, Christopher Greklek and Cindy Allnatt. Eleven great grandchildren; nieces and nephews also survive.
Reposing at Simpson – Gaus Funeral Home, 411 Albany Ave. on Monday 2-4 and 7-9 PM. A prayer service will be conducted on Monday at 2:00 PM at the funeral home by Fr. John Kearney. Interment will be in Mount St. Mary’s Cemetery, Flushing on Tuesday at 1:00 PM.
