Philip J. Battaglia, 82, of Apple Hill Road, Hurley died Saturday, March 29, 2008 at Kingston Hospital.
He was born February 11, 1926 in Yonkers, a son of the late Philip and Ernestine Dicaprio Battaglia.
He served in the army from 1944-1946, participating in the Rhineland campaign. In 1952, he joined IBM and served in various management positions including the Kingston Superintendent of 2nd. And 3rd. shifts. He retired in 1987.
Mr. Battaglia was a parishioner of St. Joseph's Church and a long time member of Wiltwyck Country Club. In 1992, he was honored with the Wiltwyck Invitational Dedication Award. He was a life member of the Hurley Fire Dept. and served as Commissioner. He was a member of the Kingston Bowling Association and had served as its president. He was a life member of Town of Esopus American Legion Post #1298. On October 26, 1947 he married Helen Zubradt Battaglia.
Surviving in addition to his wife of 60 years are two daughters Diane Blakely and her husband David of Hurley, Brenda Brown and her husband Dr. Daniel of Vestal; six grandchildren David and Heather Blakely, Christina and Michael Agar, Daniel, Christopher, Michael and Richard Brown; one great granddaughter Paige Blakely, one step great granddaughter Shannan Agar; several nieces and nephews.
Reposing at Simpson - Gaus Funeral Home, 411 Albany Ave. on Monday 2-4 and 7-9 PM. The funeral will be Tuesday at 10:45 AM from the funeral home. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Joseph's Church at 11:30 AM. Interment will be in Hurley Cemetery.
