Philip Erich Kyritz, 72, of Jackman Drive, Poughkeepsie, NY, died Sunday, September 14, 2008 at St. Francis Hospital, Poughkeepsie, NY. He was born January 9, 1936 in Bronx, NY to the late Philip J. and Bertha Kraatz Popowich. He was a graduate of Kingston High School, class of 1954
He was a veteran of the US Air Force serving from 1958 to 1987. He was Senior Master Sergeant, working as a financial management superintendent. He received the Air Force Outstanding Unit Award with two Oak Leaf Clusters. He served throughout the world during his career with the Air Force.
After retiring from the service, he went to work for the IRS in Poughkeepsie.
His hobbies included sports of all kinds. He was a Washington Redskins fan, while in the Air Force and stationed in Denver he worked part time at Mile High Stadium where the Denver Broncos play. He enjoyed playing darts, cards, going to casinos and traveling. He was a member of Kingston American Legion Post # 150
Phillip is survived by his son Ronald E. Mayne, daughters Gail LaPoint and Janet Mayne, brother George "Ron" Popowich, 6 grandchildren, beloved nieces Lisa and Kim Hoy and Sophie Popowich, Several other nieces and nephews.
Entrusted to the care of the Keyser Funeral Service, Inc., 216 Broadway, Port Ewen, where services will be held on Sunday at 6:00 pm. Friends may call on Sunday from 3 -6 pm. Interment will be in Arlington National Cemetery.
