Peter Joseph Dwyer

Peter Joseph Dwyer, a longtime resident of Kingston, NY passed away peacefully on October 25th, 2014. He was born November 18, 1932 in Kingston, NY to the late James A. Dwyer and Mary M. (Falvey). He was a descendant of a long line of Dwyers who were distinguished by businesses in shipping, ice, coal and banking in the Kingston area. His great grandfather, Denis Dwyer immigrated from Ireland in 1851 and settled in the Roundout section.

He was a graduate of Kingston High School and earned his bachelor's degree in Marketing from Seton Hall and did graduate course work at the University of Texas as well as attending the Congressional Candidate Conference school in Washington, D.C. as part of his training as a campaign manager. Peter retired as a sales executive from the Xerox Corporation in 1983, following 21 years of service where he was a member of their Par Club. He served in the United States Army during The Korean War from 1954 to 1956 as Secretary Staff to General Franklin at the Guided Missile School, El Paso, Texas.

Peter was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Ancient Order of the Hibernians, Newburgh Kiwanis Club including serving on their Board of Directors and former member of the Hudson Valley District Committee of the Boy Scouts of America. He was the chief fundraiser for the Newburgh Kiwanis Club Rose Day Scholarship Fund. He was active in the Republican Party throughout his life, focusing on local politics as well as working on several federal elections, including as a campaign manager. He was an avid history buff and in his retirement he enjoyed sharing his knowledge through years of lecturing locally. In his spare time, Peter enjoyed ice skating, skiing, Dixieland jazz and ballroom dancing. Peter will be remembered by his keen sense of humor and love of story telling.

Peter is survived by his children: Peter H. Dwyer and his wife Kim (Donleycott), Doris Dwyer Boudens and her husband Michael, Michael H. Dwyer and his partner Lisa Rosario, Thomas H. Dwyer and his wife Carolina (Rebelo) and Stephanie Dwyer Tomao and her husband Keith, his siblings: James F. Dwyer, Elizabeth D. Ryan, Anne H. Dwyer and Peggy Abernathy, many cousins, nieces and nephews, as well as his grandchildren: Stephen, Healy, Thomas, Michaela, Drew, Nadja, Noelle, Dylan, Chloe and Julia.

Entrusted to the care of the A. Carr & Son Funeral Home, 65 Lucas Ave, Kingston, New York, where friends will be received on Wednesday, October 29th from 4pm to 8pm. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 30th at 10am at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, 166 Broadway, Kingston. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery, Kingston.
