Peter J. Bonavita, Sr. of Staples Street, Kingston died Friday, October 2, 2009. He was 62.
He was born in Kingston on February 3, 1947, a son of the late Joseph T. and Louise Maccaline Bonavita.
A graduate of Kingston High School, Class of 1965, he attended Northeastern University. He served in the Marines. Mr. Bonavita owned and operated Colonial Sunoco, Pete's Arco and Kingston Car Care. In high school, he played football. An avid golfer, he was a former member of Twaalfskill Country Club for many years.
Surviving are two sons, Frank Bonavita of Brandon, VT and Peter Bonavita Jr. of Saratoga; his former wife Janice Greco Bonavita of Clayton, NC; two stepsons Jeffrey and Stephen Greco, both of Clayton, NC; two brothers Joseph L. Bonavita and his wife, Jane of Albany and Major Jeffrey J. Bonavita USAF (Ret.)and his wife Dawn of Grafton, VA; and one sister Karen M. Bodie and her husband Burt of Kingston and a step-brother, Joe Buchin and his wife Celestine of Tahiti.
Five grandchildren, C.J. Tuero, Tre and Alexandra Bonavita, Nicholas and Joseph Greco eight nephews, two nieces, five grand-nephews and two grand-nieces also survive.
One daughter Patti Jo Bonavita Tuero died previously.
Friends and family will gather on Tuesday from 6 - 9 PM at Simpson-Gaus Funeral Home, 411 Albany Ave., Kingston. A memorial Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, 10:00 AM in St. Mary's Church, Kingston.
