Peter F. Tiano Sr. of Old Flatbush Road, Town of Ulster, died Thursday, June 26, 2008 at Benedictine Hospital, after a short illness, surrounded by his loving family. He was 74.
He was born August 23, 1933 in East Kingston, a son of the late Michael "McGraw" and Rose Rua Tiano.
Mr. Tiano graduated from Kingston High School and the Spencer Business School. An honorably discharged veteran, he served in the US Army during the Korean conflict having attained the rank of sergeant. In high school, he pitched a no hitter and batted 1000 in a game.
He retired from IBM in 1993 after 30 years of service as a hardware planner. He was a member of the Quarter Century Club. He also worked as an accountant for the former Star Brick Co. and in additon worked for Frank's Pizza and Schwenk's Bakery in Kingston.
Peter truly loved working in his garden. He was most proud of his tomato plants. Peter was noted for his generosity with the fruits of his labor. Mr. Tiano was a parishioner of St. Catherine Laboure Church, and a former member of the Town of Ulster Democratic Club.
Surviving is his wife of 53 years, Barbara J. Stoff Tiano; three daughters, Colleen Robin Tiano and her fiance Michael P.W. Hanlon of Chatham Center; Regina R. Tappen and her fiance, Darrin Cohn of Connelly; Lisa Tiano Eichler and her husband, Stephen of Port Ewen; a son, Peter F. Tiano Jr. and his wife Kim of Saugerties; his brother, Michael C. Tiano of West Hurley. Four grandchildren, Peter J. Naccarato III, Nicole M. Bauer, Britney R. Tappen, Michael P. Tiano and several nieces and nephews also survive.
Two brothers, James and Joseph Tiano died previously.
Reposing at the Simpson-Gaus Funeral Home, 411 Albany Ave., Kingston on Sunday from 2 4 & 7 9 PM. A funeral procession will form on Monday at the funeral home at 11:45 AM and process to St. Catherine Laboure Church for a 12:30 PM Funeral Mass. Interment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery.
