Peter Bruce ''Pete'' Murray, 48, died peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Saturday evening, May 5th, 2012, after a courageous, but needless battle with cancer. His prayer for all is if you smoke.quit!
Pete was born September 17, 1963 in Abington Township, PA to Judith M. Murray of Kingston and the late William R. Murray, Sr. The youngest of four children, the family has resided in Kingston since 1968. He attended area schools, graduating from Kingston High School in 1981.
While in school and after graduation he worked in area restaurants mostly as a cook. He began his career as an apprentice pressman with Quick Print becoming a fully qualified pressman/printer. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving as a gunners mate during Desert Storm. He was a proud member of his ship's honor guard. In recent years he worked in area businesses mostly in the service industry.
Pete proudly married his longtime companion and friend since childhood, Janet Lasher Murray on September 27, 2008. They were married at the Fair Street Reformed Church where he was a parishioner since age 6. He loved God and this special house of worship. He faithfully served as a Deacon, being named Chief Deacon Emeritus.
He loved to cook and also enjoyed fishing, camping and the ocean, his favorite place being Cape Cod, MA.
In addition to his loving wife Janet, and his mother Judy he is survived by two sisters Leslie Clark of Kingston and her sons Rob, Sean and Tim, Alison Murray of Saugerties and her sons, Dan Murray (his godson) and Chris Groelle, and brother William R. Murray, Jr. of Vienna, VA., his wife Linda and their children Karen, Steven and Melissa. He also leaves aunts, uncles, cousins and a large and loving family on his wife's side, especially his great nephew and buddy David Morris, his best friend Joe "Shack" Kelderhouse, his beloved dog Rusty, and his loving Fair Street Church Family. To all, words cannot express his love and gratitude.
Entrusted to the care of Eric Keyser, A. Carr & Son Funeral Home, 65 Lucas Ave, Kingston, friends may call on Wednesday from 2- 5 & 7 - 9.
The service will be held at the Fair Street Reformed Church on Thursday at 10:00 am. Rev. Kendra VanHouten, officiating. Burial in Wiltwyck Cemetery, Kingston with military honors provided by Joyce Schirick Post # 1386 VFW.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Fair Street Reformed Church, 209 Fair Street, Kingston, NY 12401or Ulster County SPCA, 20 Wiedy Rd, Kingston, NY 12401
