Paul Henry Sulzbach, 52, of Kingston, passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends, including several former students, due to heart complications at New York-Presbyterian (NYP) Columbia Medical Center on February 2, 2016.
Born on January 26, 1964, in Nyack, Paul was the son of the late Robert and Dulcie (Gale) Sulzbach. Paul is survived by four brothers and their wives, Kurt and Suzanne Sulzbach (Woodstock, NY), Phil and Melinda Sulzbach (Monroe, NY), Andy and Bonnie Sulzbach (Baldwin, MD), and Dan and Denise Sulzbach (Bel Air, MD); and one sister and her husband, Susan Sulzbach and Phil Peek (Chesapeake, VA). Paul was the father of an adopted son, Eric Saavedra, godfather of Rachel (Kirkland) Williams and Carl Mosely; grandfather of Shy-Ello, Tyenna, Sophia, Alina, Tiana, and Alexis; uncle of Keith, Christine, Chris, Elizabeth, Evan, Morgan and Nick and great uncle to Tyson, Jax, Alex, Shepherd, Mabel and Victor; and mentor and father figure to numerous students from the Tito Puente Performance Academy (TPPA) in Manhattan, NY.
Paul was a special education and technology teacher at TTPA until his retirement in 2006. Paul loved music, reading, the outdoors, watching Shy-Ello on the BMX track, and perhaps most of all, teaching and shaping the lives of hundreds of children both inside and outside the classroom. The family is overwhelmed by the beautiful testimonials shared by many of Paul's students about the incredible influence Paul has had on each of their lives. Paul will continue to have an impact on his students for years to come.
The family would like to recognize and thank the entire team of medical professionals at Cardiothoracic Intensive Care Unit at NYP Columbia Medical Center for their dedication, compassion and support.
A celebration of Paul's life will be held at the Hidden Harbor Yacht Club at 167 Tilden Street, Port Ewen, NY 12466 on Saturday, February 6, 2016 from 1-4 pm.
