Patricia L. Simpson of Bakersville, NC died May 23, 2009 in Mt. Dora, FL. She was 76.
She was born in Roosevelt, Long Island on April 3, 1933, a daughter of the late Stanley T. and Ellen Craven Rougas.
Mrs. Simpson was raised on Long Island and moved to Accord in 1972. She later resided in Kerhonkson and Pine Bush. She moved to Bakersville, NC seven years ago.
She married Fred R. Simpson on December 15, 1980.
Surviving are her husband Fred R. Simpson; seven children Shirley Paley and her husband Bruce of Hurley, William Harrison of Wawarsing, Pamela Grue and her husband William of Chandler, AZ, Wayne Harrison of Kerhonkson, Jennifer Straub and her husband Chester of Melboure Beach, FL, Ellen Cordaro of Hurley and Christine Cordaro of Hurley; five step children Harry Simpson and his wife Shirley of Kerhonkson, Meloney Poppo and her husband Richard of Bakersville, NC, Elaine Schanze "Quick" and her husband Larry of Orlando, FL, Laurie Brooks and her husband James of Mt. Dora, FL and Joseph Cordaro of Long Island; two brothers John Rougas and his wife Cecelia of Liverpool and Michael Rougas and his wife Carol of Long Island; 17 grandchildren Trisha and Jason Vanderbeck, Alexandria and Bryanna Paley, William and Meghan Harrison, Justin and Zechariah Grue, John, Sara, and Rebeckah Harrison, Jonathan and Amanda Scott, Mallory Haynes, Christopher Mergendahl, Andrew and Ethan Bruck; 14 step-grandchildren, Bette Dickson, Gary Quick, Tonya Bryden, Sonny and Ashley Poppo, Nicole Campbell, Caroline, James, Sam, Shelby, Joshua, Christine and Jessine Brooks and Keri Cordaro, 13 great grandchildren; 3 nephews John, Paul and Gregory Rougas, 2 nieces Mary Ellen Rougas-Hanover and Alicia Rougas, and one sister in law Augusta "Gussie" Quick.
Reposing at the Simpson - Gaus Funeral Home, 411 Albany Ave. on Friday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The funeral procession will form on Saturday at 9:15 a.m. from the funeral home. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Joseph's Church at 10:00 a.m. Cremation will be in Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery. Inurnment will be in Cherrytown Road Cemetery, Town of Rochester at a later date.
