Nuala A. Kilkenny, 84, of Ruby, NY, passed away on Wednesday, August 21, 2024 from complications associated with advanced Alzheimer’s disease and dementia. She was born Nuala Kelly on December 22, 1939 in Dublin, Ireland. She immigrated to the United States in 1965 while working as a nanny in New York City. In 1966 she met Tobias Kilkenny, whom she later married and had three children with. The couple moved to East Kingston in 1977 where they raised their family.
Nuala worked at Northern Dutchess Hospital as a nurse’s aide for many years before working privately for families in Westchester County. She enjoyed caring for the elderly.
Nuala was a devout Catholic and parishioner of St. Colman RC Church in East Kingston, where she enjoyed singing in the choir and the Altar Rosary Society. She later joined St. Catherine Labore RC Church in Lake Katrine until such time as she became too ill to attend mass. She was involved in her Irish culture, enjoying traditional music and dance. She made many friends over the years who shared her love of Irish music and dancing. She loved to sing and was often considered the ‘life of the party’.
Nuala is survived by her children, Andrew Kilkenny and his wife Ann-Margaret of Richmond Hill, Queens, NY, Oliver Kilkenny of Tampa, FL and Caroline Kilkenny-Sheehan and her husband Patrick of Ruby, NY, her siblings, Matthew Douglas of Moneygall,Co.Offaly, Ireland, Michael Douglas of Moneygall,Co.Offaly Ireland, and Paul Douglas of London, England, her 8 grandchildren, Katherine, John, Liam, Sarah, Claudia, Patrick, Laura, and Kevin, as well as one niece, Amie Leech of Tipperary,Ireland. She was predeceased by her husband, Tobias J. Kilkenny, and her mother, Rose (Finn) Douglas.
Arrangements entrusted to Keyser Funeral & Cremation Service, 326 Albany Avenue, Kingston, NY 12401, where family and friends may visit on Tuesday, August 27, 2024 from 2pm to 4pm and 6pm to 8pm. The funeral procession will form at the funeral home at 9:30am on Wednesday, August 28, 2024 and will proceed to St. Colman RC Church, 18 Brigham St., Kingston, NY 12401 where at 11am a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Burial will follow.
