Norman N. Rafalowsky, former co-owner of clothier H.G. Rafalowsky, died Tuesday, January 20, 2009 at Ten Broeck Commons Nursing Home. He was 89.
He was born in Kingston on February 28, 1919, a son of the late Herman G. and Ida Rosenthal Rafalowsky. A graduate of Kingston High School, during WWII he served in the defense industry. He married Mollie Maged Rafalowsky on April 2, 1967.
Mr. Rafalowsky previously co-owned and operated H.G. Rafalowsky's (men's clothing store) in Kingston for 34 years. He worked with his father and brother Sidney until retirement in 1980.
He was a founder of the Ulster Performing Arts Center (UPAC) and served on the Board of Directors. Mr. Rafalowsky also served on the Maverick Concerts Board of Directors; the Kingston Hospital Foundation Board; and Board of Directors of the former Statewide Savings. A member of Wiltwyck Golf Club; he was a member at Congregation Ahavath Israel in Kingston; and served on the Board of Directors of Hudson Valley Philharmonic.
His step mother, Minna Rafalowsky, and sister, Florence Gossett died previously.
Surviving in addition to his wife of 41 years, Mollie Rafalowsky, are one brother Sidney Rafalowsky, Philadelphia, PA; two nephews Richard Gossett and Steven Rafalowsky and one niece Ilene Rockower.
Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday at the Simpson Gaus Funeral Home, 411 Albany Ave, Kingston at 10:00 a.m. Rabbi Yael Romer will officiate. Interment will be in Montrepose Cemetery.
