Norman F. Breitenstein, 89, of Grant St., Kingston died Wednesday, December 19, 2007 at Benedictine Hospital.
He was born May 22, 1918 in Brooklyn, a son of the late Frederick and Freida Lentz Breitenstein.
Mr. Breitenstein was a retired carpenter for the Empire State Carpenter’s Union. He served in the army during WW II and participated in campaigns in Luzon, New Guinea and the Northern Solomons. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and the Joyce-Schirick V.F.W. Post 1386. He was an avid fisherman, hunter and gardener.
On May 8, 1942, he married Doris Knop Breitenstein who survives at home. Also surviving are Kenneth Breitenstein and his wife Joyce of Connelly, Donald Breitenstein and his wife Darlene of Cottekill, Gene Breitenstein and his wife Sharon of Lake Katrine, Elaine Freer and her husband, Gerald of Kingston; his brother, Robert Breitenstein of Woodstock. Six grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive.

Reposing at the Simpson-Gaus Funeral Home, 411 Albany Ave., Kingston on Friday from 2 – 4 & 7 – 9 pm. The funeral service will be conducted on Saturday, 12:00 noon at the funeral home. Rev. Robert Harris will officiate. Interment will follow in Wiltwyck Cemetery.
