Rhinebeck - Norma Jean Kaufman Wood went home to Heaven and to the arms of God on Oct 3rd, 2015. Norma was born on Feb 6th, 1931, in Dorrance, Kansas, to Lena and Walter Kaufman. Norma graduated Dorrance High School in Dorrance, Kansas, in 1948. She was a forward on the girls' basketball team. She lettered all four years. Norma played the flute. Norma went on to earn her teaching certificate and taught in a one room school house. Norma worked at Sunflower Army Ammunition Plant in Kansas making gun powder where she met her husband, Cecil Kenneth Wood. On Sept 13th, 1953, Norma and Cecil wed. In 1955, Norma, Cecil, and their son, Scott, moved to NY when Cecil was transferred to Hercules. Norma and Cecil bought a house in Halcyon Park. In 1955, Norma, Cecil, and Scott became members of Mount Calvary Lutheran Church in Ruby, NY. Norma is survived by her children, Scott Douglas Wood of Kingston, NY, Paula Kay Krofchalk of Winona, MN, Bruce Robert Wood of Saugerties, NY, and Sally Ann Wood of Olivebridge, NY. Norma had three sisters, Berniece Simpson who passed away in 1991, Ella Mae Seifert who passed away in 2013, and Carol Ann Salber of Lawrence, Kansas. Norma has a son-in-law, Jon Krofchalk, grandson Jon Westwood Krofchalk, and granddaughter Kathryn Elizabeth. Krofchalk. Norma has many nieces and nephews. Norma was a member of the Ruby Firehouse Ladies Auxiliary and was their bookkeeper. She was a member of the PTA. She helped raise money for the PTA and helped at many school holiday parties and fieldtrips. Norma taught at a school in Woodstock in the early 1990's. She was a bridge player and was a member of many bridge groups in the area. Norma loved to sew. There wasn't anything she could not sew, from prom dresses, curtains and to big bird costumes for her grandchildren. Norma loved to do crossword puzzles (always in red ink), to sing, cook, and she had the gift of gab. She loved spending time laughing and joking with family and friends. She was truly an Angel here on earth and entered Heaven with her wings she earned on earth. There will be a noon luncheon on Wednesday, Oct. 28 to celebrate Norma for her dear friends and family at the Ruby Firehouse, located at 1214 Main Street in Ruby, where Norma was a member of the Auxiliary. A 2:00 graveside service will follow at the Mount Marion Cemetery where she will be laid to rest with her husband, Cecil Kenneth Wood. At a future date, part of Norma's remains will also be buried with her parent's, Walter and Lena Kaufman, in Dorrance, Kansas.
