Nevada Williams, age 86, of Albany Ave. Kingston died Monday, March 10, 2008 at her residence after a short illness. Mrs. Williams was born July 27, 1921 at Emporia, VA the daughter of the late Neuitt and Lilly Royal Garner. She married her loving husband Le Roy J. Williams February 15, 1975 in Kingston, NY.
She was educated in Skippers, Virginia and was a dietician at the Edward Wyatt High School in Emporia, Virginia. She moved to Kingston in 1956 where she gained employment at the Woolworth Department Store for many years. Later she became a nurse's aide, having worked at the Ulster County Health Related facility at Golden Hill, retiring in 1983.
She was a very active member of the Franklin Street AME Zion Church, she was president of the Pastor's Aide for 10 years. She was a Deaconess at the church. She had been a foster mother for 11 children and was honored as "Mother" of the Franklin Street AME Zion Church on Mother's Day in May of 2006. She was a former member of the New Central Baptist Church where she had been a member of the Willing Workers. Nevada was well loved by her family and friends. She touched so many lives with her faith and love of God.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her loving family, her four daughters: Ellen Monroe of Kingston, NY, Janette Downes of Kingston, NY, Mary Ellen Goins And Her Husband Kenneth of Katonah, NY, Hazel James And Her Husband Clement of Kingston, NY, a son Kenneth Moody of New York City, NY, her sisters Viera Van Dyke of Greenbelt, MD and a brother Kermit Garner of Kingston, NY, 7 Grandchildren, 10 Great Grandchildren and a Godson, Corey James; A host of nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by a daughter Lynnette Jackson and a son Leon "Pete" Williams, her sisters, Evelyn Jackson, Dorothy Garner, brothers, Herbert Garner, Vance Garner and Edward Garner
The funeral will be Saturday at 12:00 at AME Zion Church Of Kingston, 26 Franklin Street, Kingston with Rev. Willis Freeman officiating. The family will receive their friends at church on Friday from 5 - 7 pm and Saturday from 11 12. Burial will be in Wiltwyck Cemetery.
