Born March 24, 1939 in Long Island City, NY, Nancy Lemmermann has recently succumbed to a long (5 year) battle with cancer. Nancy is survived by son and daughter-in-law, John and Laura Lemmermann, daughter, Jennifer Miley, 3 much adored grandchildren, Alyssa Lemmermann, Ashley Miley, and Nancy Elizabeth Lemmermann and brother and sister-in-law, Pete and Maggy Fegers and by many close and faithful friends. Nancy attended Bernarr McFadden Tarrytown School in Tarrytown, NY. She graduated from Julia Richmond High School in New York City. Nancy attended Beloit College in Wisconsin and also studied nursing at Bellvue Hospital in NYC. Nancy's following years were spent raising a family and supporting her husband as their careers moved the family from New York, to Barrington, IL, England and Evergreen, CO. The untimely passing of John, Nancy's husband, in 1981 presented Nancy with a new set of occasions and challenges to which Nancy applied her tenacity, inquisitiveness, knowledge, adventuring spirit, love and generosity. Nancy became a partner in a nightclub and restaurant in Evergreen, CO called the "Cactus Rose." She then moved to Rhinebeck, NY. Nancy wrote news items for the Poughkeepsie Journal and then, after leaving the Journal, wrote travel articles for them as she traveled through the US and Baja, Mexico in her camper van. Upon returning to Rhinebeck, Nancy spent several years assisting guests at the Delamater House, part of the Beekman Arms. During those years Nancy became a fixture in Rhinebeck. Knowledge, once again, became a focus for Nancy. She attended Marist College in Poughkeepsie, and completed her degree Summa Cum Laude in May 1997. Jenny, her daughter, graduated Marist in 1992. Nancy worked for a number of years as a guidance counselor at Marist and taught several creative writing and journalism classes. Nancy's interests included photography, at which she excelled both in the artistic as well as the technical aspects. Nancy, you have been an inspiration and model to many of us, especially and most importantly to your family. Your interests and efforts were always aimed at providing guidance, love, caring and humor. We will miss you terribly and never forget you. You are in our memories and in our hearts. For those wishing to honor Nancy, please send any contributions to Hospice Kingston, 34 Broadway, Kingston, N.Y. 12401 (www.hospiceinc.org). All of the wonderful people at Hospice have made the transition more bearable.
