Nan M. (Bernstein) Owitz, 66, of Shokan, NY, died Friday, June 6, 2008 at Benedictine Hospital, Kingston, NY, after a long battle with many health ills.
A resident of Shokan for five years, she previously lived in Atlanta Georgia, Kingston New York, and Olmsted Falls Ohio. An animal enthusiast, she was a dog groomer by trade and also spent time as a small animal care educator at Polaris Vocational School in Cleveland Ohio. She raised many breeds but was most fond of her Dobermans and Rottweilers, winning many events with both breeds. Nan was an active member of the Dogwood Kennel Club and helped in many judging rings. She taught dog obedience, with her husband, for over 10 years.
Nan was an avid reader, often completing a book a day, and enjoyed her cooking and throwing parties for her many friends.
Nan was born December 24, 1941 in Miami, Florida, and was the daughter of the late Bernard and Hazel Bernstein. Her husband David, died in 1998.
Survivors include her brother Curtis of South Carolina, two sons and their wives, Scott and Kathy of Shokan, and Peter and Sherri of East Hampton CT. She cherished her two grandsons Tyler and Seth, and had several cousins.
A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, June 21, 2008, at 1PM, at St. Johns R.C. Church, Holly Hills Dr., West Hurley, NY
