Murray Vigden

Mr. Murray Vigden, passed peacefully in his sleep in his adopted home in Manila, Philippines on June 21, 2008. He was 90. He was born in Kingston, New York on May 15, 1918, a son of the late Louis and Frances Kaufman Vigden. Mr. Vigden served in the US Navy in the Pacific Theater of Operations during World War II, after which he was stationed in Japan with the Occupation Forces from Sept. 1945. His adventurist spirit enticed him to become discharged from the Navy and he remained in Japan where he was involved in the trade of goods and services between the US and Japan until he retired in 1982. Mr. Vigden moved to the Philippines to retire in 1986 where he remained until his death earlier this year. One sister Ruth Vigden Shankman died in 1994. He is survived by his three children Helene Victoria "Vickie" Vigden of Denver, Colorado; Louis Vigden, New York City; and Daniel Gene Vigden, of Boston, Massachussets; two grandchildren Leonard Yohsuke Vigden and Ilena Akiko Vigden; two sisters Harriet Stang and Eleanor Phillipson both of Miami, Florida. Several cousins, nieces and nephews also survive. A memorial service will be conducted at Montrepose Cemetery, Kingston on Sunday, November 23rd at 10:45 a.m. Cantor Bob Cohen will officiate.
