Muriel Blanche Short formerly of Decker St., Kingston died Sunday, December 5, 2010 at Ten Broeck Commons Nursing Home. She was 87.
She was born on St. James St., Kingston, a daughter of the late Warren Foster and Edith Gertrude Wanamaker Smith. She married Francis "Tanty" Short on October 6, 1945.
Muriel previously worked, as a teacher's aide, at the Emma Wygant School, Flatbush. She was a former Den Mother and active, for many years, in Scouting and served for two terms as President of the Chambers School P.T.A.
A member of Clinton Avenue United Methodist Church, she belonged to United Methodist Women and the GEM Society. Muriel was a former member of the Daughters of the Eastern Star. She sang with "Sheila's Singers" and the Kingston Community Chorus.
Her husband, Francis M. Short, died April 17, 2002; two sisters Madeline L. Smith Hall and Barbara Smith both died previously.
Surviving are three sons Dean F. Short and his wife Sharon of Stone Ridge, Gary D. Short and his wife Diane of Kingston and Wayne M. Short and his wife Tracie of Hurley; one sister Dorothy E. Smith Hughes of Kingston; seven grandchildren Megan Ann Richardson, Gary Robert Short, Shaun and Cybill Smith, Zachary, Avery and Brady Short, two great grandchildren Dylan and Kendyl Short, one niece Bonnie Planeau and one nephew Lee Hughes.
Reposing at the Simpson - Gaus Funeral Home, 411 Albany Ave. on Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. A Funeral Service will be conducted on Thursday at the funeral home at 12:00 p.m. Interment will follow in Mt. Marion Cemetery.
