Monte Lewis Huffman

October 22, 1934 — September 2, 2015

Monte Lewis Huffman, 80, of New Paltz, NY and New Port Richey, FL passed away Wednesday, September 2, 2015 in Kingston, NY. He was born on October 22, 1934 in Sparksville, IN to the late Elvin Lewis and Kathleen (Allman) Huffman.


Monte graduated from Medora High School in 1952 and from Indiana University in 1962. He served in the Marine Corps from 1954-1956.


He was a teacher and coach in Elkhart County, Indiana, The American School in Tehran, Iran and Clermont in Marion County, Indiana before accepting a position at Cummins Engine Company where he was Recreation Superintendent until 1984. He was Superintendent of Leisure Services for the City of Winter Haven, Florida from 1985 until his retirement in 1999.


He is survived by Jane (Hall) Huffman, his wife of 56 years, his sons Mark Logan Huffman of Buffalo, NY, Craig Lewis Huffman and his wife Cheryl and their two sons Monte Lewis and Thomas Logan Huffman of New Paltz, NY. Also surviving are his three brothers, Donald (Janet Shafer), Norman and Jeffrey (Brenda ) Huffman as well as brother-in-law George W. Hall and sisters-in-law Sara (Norman) Beck and Sue (Terry) Boknecht all of Jackson County, Indiana.


Celebration of Life will be held in Indiana at a later time.
