Monika M. Kaufmann, 79, of St. Remy, died surrounded by family on Monday, November 10, 2014 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center.
Born in Altwasser Silesia, Germany, she was a daughter of the late Paul & Emma Vogel Teuber. Monika was a lifetime member of the Kingston Maennerchor and Damenchor. She was an avid gardener who loved flowers and a master cook and baker. Monika worked with her mother in Schloss Kerssenbrock before emigrating to New York City, where she worked in the costume jewelry industry. After relocating to Ulster County to raise a family, she achieved renown for her wedding cakes. Monika was also a life member and past officer of the Kingston Maennerchor und Damenchor and an active supporter of the Saint Remy Volunteer Fire Department.
Monika is survived by her son, Karl R. Wick of St. Remy, two daughters, Rosi Creen and her husband Edward of Saugerties and Sue Kaufmann and her husband Jason of Maine, one step son, Edward Kaufmann and his wife Cheri of Kingston, seven grandchildren, Frederick, Dawn, Nicole, Eddie, Derek, Michael and Ashley, three great grandchildren, Tristan, Riley, and Lillie.
In addition to her parents, Monika was predeceased by her first husband, Horst W. F. Wick, who passed in 1962 and her second husband, Walter M. Kaufmann who passed in 2001, her brother, Paul Heinrich Teuber, a grandson, Ellisha, and a great grandson, Mason.
Monika will reposing at the Simpson-Gaus Funeral Home, 411 Albany Ave. Friends may pay their respects on Friday, November 14, 2014 from 4-8 PM.
The funeral procession will form on Saturday from the funeral home at 8:45 AM.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 AM at Sacred Heart Church in Esopus.
Interment will follow in St. Remy Cemetery.
