Dr. Miho (Kawai) Iwazaki, 63, of Kingston, New York, lost her brave battle with cancer Wednesday, July 13, 2022 at her home in Kingston, New York.
She was born on November 30, 1958 in Osaka, Japan. Miho is survived by her husband Ryuji Iwazaki of Kingston, New York and many loving friends, and wonderful colleagues. Miho will be missed for her professionalism, courtesy and kindness; for her dedication to diversity issues; for her ability to make time for and listen to the concerns of students as well as colleagues. We all mourn her passing.
Dr. Iwazaki worked at SUNY Ulster Community College from 1999 until her untimely death. She attended Cambridge University in the United Kingdom and taught in London. She then moved to the United States to attend Syracuse University. Dr. Iwazaki held a PhD and MA in Sociology and Women’s Studies from Syracuse University and a BA and MA in Sociology, from Bukkyo University, Kyoto, Japan. Dr. Iwazaki received the Chancellors Award for Excellence in Teaching in 2022. She served as Chair of the Social Sciences Department at SUNY Ulster for seven years, she served as coordinator of the Liberal Arts and Sciences Program, Sociology and Cultural Diversity Day.
