Michael C. Heitzman, avid hiker and proud member of the Catskill 3500 Club, made his final journey on October 14, 2022. Mike passed away surrounded by his loving family in Kingston, NY, after a long battle with cancer.
Greatly talented in photography, artistic painting, and writing, he will be greatly missed for his wry sense of humor, quiet wit, and highly anticipated birthday and holiday gag gifts.
Mike was born November 18, 1952, to Clement and Dolores Heitzman née Leirey of Terrance Street. He attended Kingston City Schools and worked as a bookkeeper, also free-lance construction, carpentry, and painting alongside his brothers, and worked many years as an electronic assembler.
Although it ultimately could not save his own life, Mike participated selflessly in a clinical trial to help discover a cure for bladder cancer.
Devoted son, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend, Mike is survived by his father, Clement Heitzman of Kingston, age 99; sister Barbara Sicker and husband Robert of Stone Ridge; brother David Heitzman and wife Kathleen of Kingston; brother Steve C. Heitzman and wife Linda of Millsboro, DE; and numerous nieces, nephews, and godchildren across the country who adored him for his love of nature and his taciturn yet mischievous personality. He was preceded in death by his sister Susan Heitzman.
