Michael G. Kight, 74, of West Hurley, NY, passed away Wednesday, March 16, 2022 at Westchester Medical Center. He was born August 25, 1947 in Kingston, NY, son of the late William and Betty Lee (VanKleeck) Kight.
Mike was a graduate of Onteora High School and then went on to serve in the US Air Force from 1966 to 1988, retiring with rank of Chief Master Sargent. He was a Vietnam Veteran and was a member of the USAF Chief's Association. After his retirement from the Air Force, Michael began to work for the NYC Department of Environmental Protection in Shokan, NY, where he worked for over 22 years, retiring as Regional Manger.
He was a member of the Ulster County Traffic Safety Board, Woodstock American Legion, National Rifle Association, and was a founding member of the Southside Rod and Gun Club. He was an avid outdoorsman and especially enjoyed Bass fishing and Moose hunting. Mike was well known for his Kight Labor Day bash, Canada hunting trips, the founder and CEO of the Flat Rocks Bass fishing tournament and of course the annual Kight hunting lodge camp. He was a champion for those less fortunate and was always supportive of those who had less and a friend to all.
Mike is survived by his sons, Eric Kight and his wife Karen of West Hurley, Jason Kight and his wife Navon, of Danville, CA, and Justin and his wife Heather of Hurley, NY, his sister, Ellen Densen and her husband Michael of Woodstock, his grandchildren, Adrianna, Taylor, Noah, Seth, Tyler, Aiden, Emma, and Hannah, and his former wife, Diane Haferman and her husband Charles. In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his brothers, William and Philip Kight.
Arrangements entrusted to Keyser Funeral & Cremation Service, 326 Albany Ave., Kingston, NY 12401, where family and friends may visit on Wednesday, March 23, 2022 from 4pm to 7pm. A graveside service with Military Honors will take place at 11am on Friday, March 25, 2022 at Woodstock Artists Cemetery, 12 Mountain View Ave., Woodstock, NY 12498. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Woodstock American Legion, 10 Sgt. Richard Quinn Dr., Woodstock, NY 12498.
