Michael Cacchillo, 94, of Port Ewen, died Monday, December 6, 2021 at Ten Broeck Commons.
Born in Glasco, he was a son of the late Louis & Guiditta Gaudio Cacchillo.
Michael was a kind and gentle man. He was married to the love of his life for 56 years until her passing in 2010. As a father, he was one of the best. He was always present for his three daughters and celebrated each of their accomplishments. Mike was the dad in the neighborhood that all of the kids loved. When he became a grandfather, he was over the moon with joy. There is nothing that he wouldn’t do for them. He was their “Poppy” and he was adored. Michael loved to cook for family and friends. He organized the block parties and his pizza was famous. He was the person in the neighborhood that everyone went to for help. Mike worked most of his life in the garment industry as a cutter. Then his love of cooking brought him into the restaurant business. He was co-owner of The Michael’s in Saugerties. Everyone enjoyed his pizza burger. Michael also found time to give back to the community. He was a member and officer in the Exchange Club. He was a volunteer coach for the Special Olympics. The Olympians adored him and he was proud of all of them. Mike also collected the offerings at Sunday mass at St. Joseph Church until he became ill. After retirement, Mike and his wife enjoyed trips to Florida and visiting their grandchildren. He enjoyed golfing with his buddies and spending mornings at the Stadium Diner. The food and conversation were good. Mike loved everyone he met and they, in turn, loved him. He will be missed by everyone who knew him.
