Melva Jean Wade, 92, of New Paltz, died Saturday, October 24, 2015 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center.
Born in Noblestown, PA, she was a daughter of the late John H. & Edith E. Chalmers Wade. Melva was her high school Valedictorian, a member of the LGBTQ of Kingston, board member of UPAC where she was a past woman of the year, secretary of the board of directors of the Hudson Valley Philharmonic, member of the board of Ulster Chamber Music Society. Melva received a lifetime achievement award from D & H Canal Society. She also volunteered for the Democratic Party and was honored by Congressman Maurice Hinchey.
Melva is survived by a nephew, Jack Wade, niece Jeanne Wade Marrish, as well as many great nieces, nephews and friends. She is predeceased by her beloved partner of over 40 years, Mary Johnston and five siblings, Agnes D. Wade, John H. Wade, Jr, William C. Wade, Genevieve G. Wade and Sandra Wade.
Service and interment will be private.
