Maryvee Glass Yakowitz, 100, of Kingston, formerly of Tucson Arizona, died Saturday, September 11, 2010 at The Kingston Hospital. She was born September 20, 1909 in San Bernardino, CA to the late David and Mary Adair Glass.
She was married to her loving husband of 56 years, Morris Yakowitz, who passed away in 1990.
Maryvee graduated from the University of Maryland with a bachelor's degree in Chemistry and then went on to be one of the first women hired by the Food and Drug Administration in San Francisco, CA as an analytical chemist.
She was a member of the Sierra Club in the 1930's where she often hiked with photographer Ansel Adams. She was a member of The American Chemistry Society for 78 years. She loved all animals and would often rescue any that came her way.
Maryvee is survived by her grandchildren, April Yakowitz of Kingston, Jane Yakowitz of Brooklyn, Joel Yakowitz of Arizona and Karen Wesley of Alabama.
In addition to her husband she is predeceased by her son Sidney Yakowitz.
Services will be private at the discretion of the family.
