Mary-Ellen Castiglione

Mary-Ellen Castiglione of Plochman Lane, Woodstock died Thursday, June 11, 2009 at Benedictine Hospital. She was born in New Rochelle and moved to Ellenville as a teenager. Mary-Ellen graduated Ellenville High School and, for several years, worked at the former Channel Master. She married Harry M. Castiglione on October 5, 1962 and moved to Woodstock. For many years Mary-Ellen was the proprietor of Mary-Ellen Hairstylist, Woodstock. Politically active, Mary-Ellen served as Secretary of the Ulster County Democratic Party. Under the leadership of Louis Resnick, she assisted in many of his philanthropic endeavors. She also served as Committeeperson and Chair of the Woodstock Democratic Committee. Active in her community, Mary-Ellen was a parishioner of St. John's Church, West Hurley, a member of the Woodstock Chamber of Commerce, the Woodstock Ski Program and former chair of the Ulster County American Cancer Society. For the past two years Mary-Ellen was lovingly cared for at the Golden Hill Health Care Center. Two brothers Eugene and Joseph Merigliano both died previously. Surviving are her husband of 46 years, Harry M. Castiglione, two daughters Pamela Robinson and her husband Clifford of Blaine, Washinton, and Cara Castiglione of Brooklyn; one son Michael H. Castiglione of Wilmington, Delaware; one grandson Cecil Robinson, many nieces and nephews. Reposing at the Simpson - Gaus Funeral Home, 411 Albany Ave. on Sunday 6-8 and Monday 2-4 and 6-8. The funeral procession will form on Tuesday at 9:00 a.m. from the funeral home. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. John's Church, Holly Hills, at 10:00 a.m. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.
