MaryAnn Rose Rittie, 79, of East Kingston, died Monday, April 25, 2022, at her home.

Born in Kingston, she was a daughter of the late Thomas & Frances Gulisano McCullough.

Mary Ann was devoted to her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a nursing graduate of St. Peters School of Nursing in NYC. She was a school bus driver for Acker Bus Lines and later for Laidlaw.

She enjoyed her weekends with her family at their summer camp in Mt. Tremper and the short vacation trips with Frank to Cape Cod and Lake George.

Mary Ann was a pioneer for women in the fire service when she became an active member of the East Kingston Fire Co. in 1977. She held many offices and was the first female Chief officer in Ulster County when she was elected Assistant Chief in 1987.

MaryAnn is survived by her husband of 59 years, Frank Rittie, Sr, of East Kingston, two daughters, Michele Mead and her husband, David of Kingston, Frances Schaefer of Saugerties, a son, Frank Rittie, Jr. of Kingston, a brother, Thomas F. McCullough, Jr of South Cairo, three grandchildren, David N. Mead, Nichole Mead, and John Schaefer, four great grandchildren, Emma, Mia, John, and James (J.J.), many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, April 30 at the East Kingston Fire house at 1:00pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent in Mary Ann’s memory to the East Kingston Fire Co. 885 Main St. Kingston, NY 12401.
