Mary V. Terpening Hummer, 87, of Kingston died Thursday, November 25, 2010 at The Kingston Hospital. She was born July 16, 1923 in Kingston, the eldest of the late Richard and Mary Lewis Terpening.
Mary attended St. Mary's Catholic School in Kingston and Kingston High School before becoming a beautician. She married Warren Reed Hummer on November 8, 1945 at St. John's Episcopal Church in Kingston. She was a supervisor at Dyno Nobel (formerly Hercules Powder Plant) in Port Ewen for over twenty years before her retirement in 1985.
In her youth she was a competitive roller skater and enjoyed reading, watching the boats sail up and down the Hudson with her dog by her side, and doting on her grandchildren. Mary will forever be remembered for her immovable devotion to her children and grandchildren as well as for her steadfast friendship.
Mary is survived by her children Richard R. Hummer, Robert M. Hummer and Nancy Kay LaTorre and her husband, John, all of Kingston; a brother Jack Terpening and his wife, Dolores, of Kingston; sisters Mrs. Joseph (Rosemary) Keller, Lorraine Longendyke and Mrs. Anthony (Jane) Mitchell all of Kingston; a beloved niece Carol Keller of Jacksonville, Florida; eight grand children, Richard R. Hummer Jr., Mrs. Joseph (Deborah) Long, Mrs. Scott (Kimberly) Williams, Robert Scott Hummer, Christopher LaTorre, Mrs. Jeffrey (Tammy) Heppner, Jennifer LaTorre and Roger Hummer; 11 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband she is predeceased by her son Roger W. Hummer and two brothers Richard and Robert Terpening.
She is entrusted to the care of The Keyser Funeral Service, Inc., 326 Albany Avenue, Kingston, NY 12401, where a memorial service will be held on Saturday December 4th at 2:00 p.m.
Friends may call on Saturday from 1-2 p.m. at the funeral home. There will be a private internment in the family plot at St. Mary's Cemetery at a later date.
