Mary Mullady Embree, 91, of Marbletown, passed away Monday, July 8, 2013 at HealthAlliance Hosp. Broadway Campus in Kingston. She was born January 20, 1922 in Ogdensburg, NY to the late Edward and Bertha (Johnson) Mullady.
Following graduation from Ogdensburg Free Academy, Mary moved to New York for a brief stint. Not taking to the big city life, Mary enrolled at Potsdam State Teachers College. It being wartime, her mother ran a boarding house for students to help finance her education. There, Mary met Alexander W. Embree Jr., a Clarkson student, married in July 1948 and moved to Kingston. Later, Mary went on to receive her Master's in Special Education from SUNY New Paltz and worked as a Special Education Teacher at George Washington Elementary School in Kingston before retiring in 1984.
She was a member of the Wiltwyck Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and a Shriner Lady.
Mary was predeceased by her husband Alex in 2008 and survived by her children, Frances E. Wong and her husband Fred of Glen Ridge, NJ, Jean E. Souders and her husband Steve of The Woodlands, TX, and Gloria E. Davis of Kingston. She is the grandmother of Christopher (Anna) Wong, Erin (Jason) Wong, Lindsey (Tim) Wong, Kyle & Kira Souders, Katrina & Tyler Davis and Farren Davis Lobdell and her husband Chet. Mary is the great grandmother of Delia Streeter and Colin, Catherine & Thomas Wong. She also leaves several nieces, nephews, dear friends Betty Newell & Billy Banks and Willow. Mary is predeceased by her brother Edward J. Mullady and his twin sister.
Entrusted to the care of Luke Keyser of A. Carr & Son Funeral Home, 65 Lucas Ave., Kingston, where friends may call on Thursday from 2-4 & 6-8pm. The funeral service will take place on Friday at 11am at The Community Church of High Falls in High Falls, NY. Burial will follow in North Marbletown Cemetery on Route 209.
