Mary Helen Winchell

Mary Helen Winchell, of 210 Harwich Street, Kingston, NY, passed away suddenly on January 28, 2011. She was born in Prairie Dell, Texas on June 10, 1927, to the late John and Helen Stone. Mary Attended Belton, Temple and Austin High and was a graduate of St. Mary's Academy and Austin Business School. She retired from Ulster County and Metropolitan Life - United Health. Mary was an active member of St. James United Methodist Church, as well as an active volunteer in her community for over 50 years. She was a master gardener, avid reader, and enjoyed traveling and quilting.

Survivors include her beloved husband, Robert A. Winchell whom she married on June 22, 1946. Together for over 64 years they raised two sons and two daughters; Billie of Richmond, VA. and Robert and his wife JoAnn of Stillwater, NY, Nancy and her husband Curtis Merritt of Rocky Point, NC and Thetis and her husband Vincent Brognano, Jr. of Gardiner, NY. Mary cared deeply for her six grandchildren as they grew to respected and successful adults; Amanda, Kori, Robert, Kasey, Eric and Alyssa. In addition, she leaves her siblings, Harold and Dr. James Stone and Barbara Caldwell, all of Oklahoma; she was predeceased by her brothers Charles, Billie and John D. Stone.

A Spiritual Memorial Service will be held at the St. James United Methodist Church, on Saturday, February 5th at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, and taking into consideration that Mary was a cancer survivor for two decades, the family suggests donating to the American Cancer Society, 95 Schwenk Drive, Kingston, NY 12401 or St. James United Methodist Church, 29 Pearl Street, Kingston, NY 12401
