Mary Elizabeth Baum, of Albany Avenue, Kingston, died Sunday, May 12, 2013 at Thompson House, Rhinebeck, following a courageous battle with cancer. She was born in Donegal, Ireland, a daughter of the late James J. and Mary McGeever O'Friel. For many years, Mary was a LPN at Pilgrim State Psychiatric Hospital in Brentwood. On August 20, 1939 she married the late William E. Baum in Brooklyn. Mary attended St. Mary's Church in Kingston. She enjoyed spending time with her loving family including her daughter, M. Pat (Joe) Achatz of Kingston; her three sons, Bill (Geri) Baum of Riverside, CA; Bob Baum of Winchester, MA and Ed Baum of Lake Katrine. Also surviving are her former daughters-in-law, Donna and Colleen Baum, her former son-in-law Steve Gonda and eight grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, her son John E. Baum; two grandsons, Steve Gonda and Wayne Baum and all of her siblings including Dan, Joe, Jim and John O'Friel and Annie Long and Cathleen Ericksen all died previously. Entrusted to the care of Paul Geary of the Keyser Funeral & Cremation Service, 326 Albany Ave., Kingston where friends will be received on Friday evening from 6 - 8 PM. A funeral procession will form on Saturday at 9:00 AM and process to St. Mary's Church for a 10:00 AM funeral Mass celebrated by Fr. Louis Yaya.
