Marvin Sol Lurie, 80, of Kingston, passed away Friday, May 15, 2015, at HealthAlliance Hospital Broadway Campus.
A lifelong Kingstonian, Marvin was born to the late Miriam (Avnet) and Joseph Lurie.
Until Marvin's father died, he was his "partner and sidekick" on the road buying and selling just about anything, including livestock. The deals he made well, nobody could do what he did, except maybe his Dad, and he'd be the first one to tell you so. He was known for his witty gift of gab, able to hold a conversation in any circumstance. Marvin was an avid sportsman. Without having had the benefit of formal training, he was known by many to be a gifted runner, blessed with extraordinary speed. He was a true die-hard Yankee fan, never having missed a single game, including listening and/or viewing each game twice if possible.
His fondest memories were those of sharing "road stories" and Kingston lore. Above all, Marvin had no greater love than for his family. He truly was one of a kind, and he will be sorely missed. He was beloved by his family and survived by sister, Naomi Kogon, of Kingston, who was his lifeline for the past 26 years; nephew Lou Kogon (Alyssa) of Rhinebeck, and their children (Miranda Beth and Samuel Tyler); nephew Benny Kogon (Margaret) of Burbank, CA, and their children (Leilani Elizabeth and Kalea Joelle); niece Debra Kogon of Kingston.
A Funeral Service will be held at the Simpson-Gaus Funeral Home, 411 Albany Ave., on Sunday, May 17, 2015, at 10:00 AM, with Rabbi Yitzchok Hecht of Congregation Agudas Achim, officiating.
Interment will follow in Montrepose Cemetery.
The family requests that memorial contributions be made to The ALS Association Gift Processing Center, PO Box 6051, Albert Lea, MN 56007.
