Martin Robert Gruberg of Village Court, Kingston died Friday evening, September 19, 2008 at Kingston Hospital. He was 79.
A native and lifelong Kingston resident, he was born January 30, 1929, a son of the late David and Sadie G. Kirschner Gruberg. Mr. Gruberg was a Kingston High School graduate, class of 1946.
He served in the National Guard and, in 1950, purchased the Hub Deli on Broadway from his father. Bob operated the deli until 1981.
A passionate musician, Bob played clarinet and sax with the Top Hatters and Kingston Lion's "Roarin' Pride" band. He was a member of the Musician's Union, Local 215, Kingston.
A member and former officer of the Kingston Lions Club, Bob was active in the S.E.E.C. club, Expo, and other club activities.
A member of Congregation Ahavath Israel, in 1985 he served as Master of the Free & Accepted Masons, Rondout Lodge #343.
Bob later worked at the City of Kingston and then in the purchasing department for Ulster County.
His wife Helma R. Rosenberg Gruberg died January 24, 1980; one brother William Gruberg died in 1980.
Surviving are two daughters Judi Biski and Erich Huemer of Orlando, FL; Marjorie Rovereto and her husband Santino of Kingston, one son Dr. Joseph M. Gruberg and his wife Marilyn of Burke, VA; one sister Elaine Siller of Kingston; three grandchildren Mark and Marisa Rovereto and Danny Gruberg; two nephews Andrew and Jacob A. Siller and one niece Joan Slovin.
There will be a gathering of family and friends on Sunday from 3:00 - 6:00 p.m. at the Simpson - Gaus Funeral Home, 411 Albany Ave. The Kingston Lions Club will conduct a service at 3:30 p.m. and the Rondout Lodge #343 will conduct a ritual at 4:00 p.m.
A funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home on Monday at 10:00 a.m. Rabbi Yael Romer will officiate. Interment will be in Montrepose Cemetery.
