Marion DuBois, 99, passed away on October 25, 2023 at Ten Broeck Center in Lake Katrine, NY. Born August 28, 1924 in East Orange, NJ, she grew up with the Boyce family in Glenford, NY.
From age 6 she walked 2 miles to and from the 1–room Glenford Schoolhouse in whatever weather, often alone. She later attended Beacon High School for a year, then Kingston High School. Just before her 18th birthday, she married Merlin “Dutch” DuBois, in 1942, while he was in the Army fighting in WWII overseas.
Marion worked at Baltz’s Pajama Factory and Grants Dept. Store in Kingston. Marion and Dutch were married for nearly 72 years, and raised 3 children. Marion took pride in her housekeeping skills, both at home and professionally. Her baking was memorable, generously shared with friends and neighbors. She enjoyed working at Rotron for a few years but had to leave due to a lack of childcare.
She was a longtime member of the Glenford Church and later the Ashokan Methodist Church. In later years she especially enjoyed spending winters in Florida with her son Gary and family. Marion loved music all her life, playing piano by ear as a child and dancing at the Wittenberg Sportsmen's Club as a teenager. At Ten Broeck she would sit up front at music events, waving her hands in time. She loved people and participated in everything, briskly pushing her rollator up and down the halls to see what was going on. She had a mischievous sense of humor.
Marion is survived by her children, Sandra Osina and Mark (Laurie) DuBois, her daughter-in-law, Bernadette DuBois, her grandchildren, Gregory and Stephanie DuBois, as well as several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Dutch DuBois in 2014 and by her beloved son, Gary DuBois, who passed only 11 days previous to her death on October 14, 2023.
The family wishes to thank both the staff and residents at Ten Broeck Center for making Marion feel safe and cared for. She truly felt at home there.
