Marie Tomlinson

September 8, 1920 — April 20, 2008

Marie Tomlinson, formerly of Sterlling St. in Kingston and Lawrenceville St. in the Town of Ulster died Sunday, April 20, 2008 at the Eden Park Nursing Home in Glens Falls after a long illness surrounded by her loving family. She was 87. A former resident of Kingston, she was born on September 8, 1920, the daughter of the late John J. and Catherine Sottile Mayone. A graduate of Benedictine Hospital's Our Lady of Victory Nursing School, Class of 1941. Marie went to New York City to further her studies in pediatric and psychiatric nursing. While there, she was a part of a medical team who opened a new hospital before returning to Kingston. Upon return, she was chosen to train the local medical community for the polio outbreak sweeping the country at the time. Mrs. Tomlinson worked as a private duty nurse until her retirement. She was active in the New York State Nurses Association, and also a tireless volunteer for UPAC, the Heart Association and the PTA of the Academy of St. Ursula. She was a parishioner of St. Joseph's Church. Living her life with joy and gusto, Marie enjoyed opera, gardening, oil painting and traveling at every opportunity. She was predeceased by her hear husband, Edwin Tomlinson died on December 17, 1978. Survivig are her children, Cathy (Cate) Tomlinson of Kingston, Judith Barton and her husband Tom of Glens Falls and Marie Grimm and her husband Steven of Saylorsburg, PA; a son-in-law, Theodore Breen; two sisters, Gloria O'Rourke and Eleanor Bellio, both of Kingston. Eleven grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive. A daughter, Nancy Breen and a brother, John Ray Mayone died previously. Reposing at the Simpson-Gaus Funeral Home, 411 Albany Ave., Kingston on Wednesday from 2 - 4 & 6 - 8 pm. A funeral procession will form on Thursday at 9:15 am from the funeral home. At 10:00 am, a funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Joseph's Church. Interment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery.
