Marie Cooney

Marie Cooney of Hurley, NY was born in 1926 in Queens, the daughter of William and Catherine Hunt. She was the wife of the late Leroy Cooney. Marie had worked in accounting for several retailers and law firms on Long Island.

Marie and Leroy raised their family in Merrick, Long Island and moved to Hurley in 1985. She was a parishioner of St. Joseph's RC Church and an active volunteer of the Benedictine Hospital Auxiliary where she worked in the gift shop and finance department. She was affectionately nicknamed "Queen Marie" by many of her friends at Benedictine.

In her retirement, Marie was fond of traveling with her husband, her brother Bill, and sister in-law Jean. Her reputation for being so warm and hospitable to all who ate at her table would often lead to friends of the family declaring her their "adopted" mom.

Marie is survived by her loving family; her children, Kathleen (Rick) Parisi, Ellen, Jerry, Mike, Theresa, daughter in-law Pat Cooney, her grandchildren, Elizabeth and Kate Parisi, Dawn (Brian) Corey, Edward, Aidan, Sean, James, Thomas, Ann Cooney, a brother William and his wife Jean Hunt as well as many nieces and nephews. Marie was predeceased by her sister Margaret Walters

Entrusted to the care of Eric Keyser, A. Carr & Son Funeral Home, 65 Lucas Ave, Kingston, the family will receive their friends may call on Friday from 2 - 4 & 7 - 9 pm. The procession will form on Saturday at 9 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Joseph's RC Church at 10:00 am.
Burial in Montrepose Cemetery, Kingston.
