Marie B. Pilz Carro DeWitt, 85, of Hurley, died Thursday, September 11, 2014 at Ferncliff Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center.
Born in Kingston, she was a daughter of the late Walter M. & Anna C. Muller Pilz. Marie worked for Metropolitan Life Insurance for many years before retiring in 1991. She was a member of the Hurley Senior Citizens and the Hurley Fire Company Auxillary, a parishioner of St. Joseph Church and a volunteer for Catholic Charities at the Hurley Mission and a past 4-H Leader. She enjoyed gardening, cooking and sewing.
She is survived by five children, Ann K. Edgar and her husband Scott of Red Hook, Marie E. Wolfe and her husband Paul of College Station, TX, Audrey J. Brayman of Hurley, Bernice L. Gaughan of Yellow Springs, OH, John J. Carro and his wife Christi of Leander, TX, one brother, Joseph W. Pilz and his wife Ethel of Saxton, one sister, Anna K. Wamsley of Hurley, one siser in law, Terry Pilz of Hurley, seven grandchildren, Douglas Brayman, Cassandra Beesimer and her husband Thomas, Brian C. Wolfe, Sherry L. Wolfe, S. Ryan Edgar, Olivia M. Gaughan and Jake T. Carro, three great grandchildren, Trent Brayman, Bradley and Abigail Beesimer. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
In addition to her parents, Marie was predeceased by her brother, Walter G. Pilz.
Marie will be reposing at the Simpson-Gaus Funeral Home, 411 Albany Ave, on Monday, September 15, 2014 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM.
The funeral procession will form on Tuesday from the funeral home at 9:00 AM.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 AM at St. Joseph Church.
Interment will follow in Hurley Cemetery.
